When I started writing online in 2020 advice to “niche down” came from all directions. From Medium articles to Instagram, the message was clear:

Niche down or get lost in the noise.

In 2024, it remains the prevailing viewpoint on starting online businesses — and creating the content that supports those online businesses.

This piece of advice sounds smart in theory, but falls apart in practice when you’re a one-person business owner who continues to grow.

Niching felt like a box to me — and if that’s you too, there’s another way.
